A Native from Illinois, Brad moved to Washington State in 1998, after earning his Funeral Director and Embalming licenses from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in 1996.  However, Brad learned from an early age what was needed to serve each family with dignity and professionalism, as he is a third-generation Funeral Director/Embalmer to his grandfather, who owned a funeral home in Grant Park, Ill., since 1936. Brad attended Whitworth University in Spokane, WA where he earned his B.S. in Biology/Pre-Med in 2001.  During his time in Washington, Brad has had many opportunities to be employed by privately owned funeral homes and corporate-run funeral firms.  Two years prior to coming to Jerns Funeral Chapel, Brad managed Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills Funeral Home and Cemetery in Lynnwood, WA, along with Cypress Lawn Memorial Park in Everett, WA.  In October 2007, Brad took on an opportunity to take ownership of Jerns Funeral Chapels in Bellingham and Blaine, WA.

Brad is a past vice president of the IEFDA (Inland Funeral Director Association). His commitment to the community has led to become currently involved as Vice President of Synergos Networking group, Connections Networking Group, Board Member of the Drayton Harbor Maritime Committee, Instructor with the Blaine Youth Sailing Program, member of the Blaine Chamber of Commerce, Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce, ESP "Elder Service Providers" Bellingham and the Bellingham Chamber of Commerce.

Brad currently resides in Ferndale, WA with his wife, Julia: son, Zachary and  daughter, Georgia. Brad enjoys sailing, biking, motorcycles, and spending time with his family and friends.

Pastor Reuben V. Sapien is our on-staff Celebrant; for those who do not have a pastor or attend church regularly.  He is a native of Washington's Skagit County, being raised in Burlington. Reuben has been in the ministry for 34 years and comes to us with a very diverse background. He is a United States Army Veteran and is very active and accommodating to veteran's families as well as all. Reuben's approach includes services arranged according to the families needs and convenience (no mandatory structure); to recognize the loved one, bring comfort to the surviving family members, and dignity to the process. Reuben initially contacts the family by phone for appointment, spends a minimum one-hour with the family getting to know their loved one, and again meets the family one-half hour before services to cover last minute changes, and finally a follow-up call one week after the service. Using poetry, biblical verses, life stories and lessons, Reuben is able to compose a spectacular customized life celebration service for your loved one.
